The Millar was a part of the middle class, and made a lot of money because he overcharged for his services, so much so, he is called a swindler and that he had a golden thumb. On his nose is a large wart with a few black hairs sticking out of it. He wears a white cloak with a blue hood, andĬarries a sword and buckler. The miller is a strong man who enjoys wrestling and drinking. His reason for the pilgrimage is because he wants to heal a large wart on his nose. The Miller is also a drunk, being drunk even when he tells his story. He is also a swindler, charging alot of money for his services. The Shipman was introduced into the Canterbury Tales mainly because of the influence that the sea had on England, and specifically Edward the III's reign. The Miller is a big strong fellow with a very crude mind. When looking at the character the Skipper, or the Shipman, one has to understand whom Geoffrey Chaucer writing about in the fourteenth century. ![]()
